Who doesn’t love a classic fresh-out-the-oven pizza with pepperoni, pineapple or parmesan? You’d be surprised how many people don’t think of these as “classic” toppings when they think of pizza. Countless countries around the world have some very interesting, unusual toppings that you’d never think of here in the states. In Russia, fish is a very popular topping choice. Russian pizza consumers will commonly ask for tuna, salmon, mackerel, and even red herring on their pizza. On top of that, pizza in Russia is usually served cold.

On the other side of the Globe, Brazilian pizza lovers enjoy everything from green peas and corn to raisins. But believe it or not, raisins aren’t even the most unorthodox choice. Brazilians are also known for ordering hard boiled eggs as a topping to tie the whole meal together.Next, let’s take a journey through Japan’s menu. Common toppings include eel, squid, and a mixture of mayonnaise, potato and bacon called “mayo jaga”. Their most coveted topping, though, is Teriyaki chicken – definitely less terrifying to our tastebuds than the eel or quid.

While all of these toppings seem odd, we always say don’t knock it ’til you try it. Who knows? You might discover something you love! (Though nothing beats our Pappone’s special, topped with pepperoni, Sausage, Mushroom, Green Pepper, Onion And Black Olives!)
